The High Desert Lighthouse Charity Auction is about more than bidding. It is about what a community can make possible when people come together to help. A bag of groceries for someone who doesn’t know how they’re going to make it through the week.

Sometimes helping someone begins with something very simple.

A blanket for someone who needs warmth. Food waiting on a pantry shelf. A place where a person going through a difficult time can walk through the door and find someone willing to listen, pray with them, or simply remind them that somebody cares. That is what makes the High Desert Lighthouse Charity Auction about much more than winning a bid. It is about people helping people.

A Vision That Became a Lighthouse

The Lighthouse began with a vision placed on Tara Packer’s heart—to create a place where people could find help, prayer, compassion, and hope. Tara has never wanted the Lighthouse story to be about her. In her eyes, the credit belongs to God and to the many people who answered the call to help. Others stepped forward. Volunteers gave their time. People donated food, blankets and other necessities. Members of the community found different ways to help, and little by little, Tara’s vision became something much bigger than herself. What began with one person willing to take that first step soon became the work of many hands and many hearts.

And perhaps the most important part isn’t found in a building at all. It is found in the people who have walked through its doors and discovered that during one of life’s difficult moments, they didn’t have to face it completely alone.

The People Behind the Light

A ministry like the Lighthouse doesn’t continue because of one person. Behind Tara’s vision are volunteers and supporters who give something equally valuable — their time, their hands and their hearts. Some help with food. Some bring needed items. Some give financially. Some pray. Some simply show up when there is work to be done. Different people. Different gifts. One purpose. Help where help is needed. That spirit of giving is also what makes the High Desert Lighthouse Charity Auction special.

High Desert Lighthouse Charity Auction: Your Bid Can Be Part of the Story

An auction is supposed to be fun. You see something you like. You place your bid. Someone else bids. Maybe you bid again. And if yours is the winning bid, you get to take something home. But this time, there is something else behind that bid. There is a reason for it. Your participation helps support the continuing work and mission of the High Desert Lighthouse. So while you may be bidding on something for yourself, you are also participating in something meant to help someone else.

That changes the meaning of a winning bid. The item you win may eventually sit on a shelf, hang on a wall, become a gift, or create a wonderful memory. But the good your participation helps make possible can travel much farther.

More Than an Auction

Maybe that is the best way to think about this auction. It isn’t simply about “What can I win?” It is also about “Who can I help?”

Tara planted the seed. Volunteers and supporters helped it grow. The Lighthouse continues its work in the community, one person and one need at a time.

And now there is room for the rest of us in that story.
